Vintage Fashion
They say that all fashions return to significance at some time and it certainly seems true for the timeless styles of the 1940's, 50's and 60's. The elegance of these fashion era's have been lifted to an iconic status amongst fashionista's in recent seasons and the trend shows no sign of relenting. The growing popularity of up cycling clothes and shopping in markets and thrift stores has seen a further growth in young trend setters wearing clothes their mothers and grandmothers may have worn. The trend for vintage fashion can take on many forms. The rich invest in one off pieces from iconic designers such as Dior or Chanel, where the majority of us wear vintage inspired pieces from the high street, possibly combined with a true vintage piece picked up in a thrift store or market. If you are looking to achieve an authentic vintage fashion look, my suggestions for key vintage inspired pieces should do the trick. Also keep an eye on the vintage fashion queen of the celebrity world; Kate Moss, for further inspiration. It is often HOW you wear your items rather than what you wear that creates the vintage look you are after.

Vintage Accessories
Hats
The accessories say it all in an excellent Vintage inspired look. Hats can sometimes be hard to pull off, but if you can, then a hat is a definite finishing touch to any outfit. The floppy felt hat is sexy and chic, great for winter or summer, just choose the colour to suit. This hat was popular in the 60's and 70's yet looks just as fresh now. Choose a bold accent colour such as this berry version below. For a less floppy look, choose the fedora. Add your own fabric or button detailing for a 'make or mend' touch.

Fur
Nothing exudes glamour and sophistication like wearing fur. Wearing fur doesn't have to be daunting, you can add fur in small amounts rather than with a traditional fur coat. A faux fur gilet / vest is a fantastic accessory to a fall outfit whilst being practical. Fur was immensely popular in the 70's and 80's and has made a great comeback. Check out these options to fur up your vintage outfit! Dress in fashion - wear faux fur!
Dresses
The staple of any feminine wardrobe is the dress. Particularly in the 40's and 50's the dress was everyday wear for all women, as trousers were yet to be designed for women. The shapes designed for the 1940's and 50's woman were demure and classic. The tea dress is a common shape from the 40's that has been reproduced by most high street stores. The simple A-line shape suits all body shapes and is a great base for unusual prints. The 50's dress was more glamour led, with the style accentuating a woman's body shape. The halter necklines and full circle skirt provided the prefect rock and roll dress.

If you choose just one of these key vintage items, you will be on your way to developing your on trend look. Search for interesting items that will add to your key items such as old jewellery, long leather gloves or vintage shoes. To create the vintage remember to consider HOW you wear your clothes, be playful with your layers and accessories. Tie a scarf around your head for a 60's vibe, or wear it as a belt! Wear your fur gilet with shorts in the summer for an evening look or team your day dress with thivck tight in the winter. Start here and build on dressing in fashion!
